Don’t Do THIS Before DreamTime!
So many of us fall asleep to the news or to Netflix shows filled with murder and mayhem.
For the longest time, I kept an arm’s length relationship with the news because it felt waaaay too heavy and depressing. But, lately, I’ve felt compelled to peek out from bedsheets and started paying more attention to what is unfolding with:
The Epstein files
Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance
the ICE chaos
and all things disturbing connected to Trump and the people in his orbit.
It is a lot. and heavy…and I’ve learned the hard way, it’s not something to pay attention to at bedtime!
I am not suggesting you don’t keep up with what is happening in the world. Nor am I suggesting you only watch videos of fuzzy, cute animals. But if you are going to take in the hard stuff, follow it with at least a spoonful of content that is uplifting, inspiring, and that reminds you that life is worth living.
What I am saying (to you and to myself) is to simply put a buffer between all of that and your precious sleep.
Besides, there is scientific data (according to Jama Network) showing that watching screens — especially news or violent media — right before bedtime is linked with poorer sleep quality, later bedtimes, and shorter sleep duration.
Here’s what I know…if we do not sleep, we do not dream. If we do not dream, we lose contact with guidance and solutions that exist beyond this visible world.
As Albert Einstein said, “You can’t solve a problem with the same mind that created it.”
Our dreams give us access to the part of us that can reach beyond the confines of our human imaginings and can help us align with wisdom that isn’t available to us when we’re doomscrolling.
Remember this: Your dream zone is sacred territory.
Let the final imprint on your psyche before sleep be hope, not horror.
Guard your dream space. Protect your night mind.
Treat your dream zone like it is precious, because it is and because you are.
